We then moved on to go over the beginning vocabulary:
- renewable resource
- nonrenewable resource
- fossil fuel
- geothermal energy
- coal
- petroleum
- natural gas
- acid precipitation
Once we completed this, then we started a discussion on what the difference is between renewable and nonrenewable resources. We learned that the key to renewable resources is that these resources need to be replaced naturally in our lifetime. We then discussed how solar, wind and biomass energy each have a drawback. Solar energy is good but the sun is not always shining. Wind energy is also good but it is not always windy or it could be too windy. Biomass energy has two drawbacks. One, if you use it too quickly then it is not renewable. Two, biomass when burned for its energy releases, CO2 and smoke which is pollution.
