Today, we took a quick quiz on getting the information off of an element key from the periodic table and to create a Bohr model from that information.  Many students struggled with this. If you struggled with this please review how to create a Bohr Model from the following video.

Here is a video link on how to create a Bohr Model.

We then continued with the alkaline earth metals on the periodic table.  We read pp. 354-358. We learned about the physical properties of metals.

Group 2- Alkaline Earth Metals (Givers)  The 2 Doo Whop Girls with Aretha.  They give too but are giving 2 electrons instead of one.

We learned that this group in column two has two electrons in the outer shell no matter what element it is.  This means that the whole group is also very chemically reactive because the two electron want to connect with other elements.
  • less metallic than group 1
  •  not as reactive as group 1
  • low density but denser than group 1
  • Just like group 1, group 2 natural state is to be combined with other elements to form compounds.
