Today we worked on the periodic table that was handed out. We a just beginning to use this tool and we will use this worksheet as place to put note on how to use the periodic table. See the picture below of what was colored in.
We then started our discussion on compounds from p. 234 of the textbook. In the most simple terms, compounds are substances that have 2 or more elements bonded together chemically. We had a very lively discussion of how chemical formulas tell us how many atoms of a certain element are present in a compound. This is done by the number subscript in a formula. For example CO2, has 1 atom of carbon and 2 atoms of oxygen.
