Today we finished off the Bohr's Model worksheet and then looked at more information that the periodic table tells us.  We discussed that column 18 is called the Noble Gasses because the outer shell for all of these elements are full so these elements are very stable.  We then moved on to column 17 and found out that all of these elements are missing 1 electron to make then stable.  So they are very reactive because they want to take electrons for other elements .  They are called the Halogens.  Column 1 is called the Alkali metal and are very reactive because they have an extra electron they want to give away much like people want to give away a fruitcake given to them over Christmas.  Column 2 is called the Alkali earth Metals and are reactive as well but not as much as column one because they need to give away 2 electrons.  Again, it is like trying to give away two fruitcakes.  Yes, you can give them away, but it take more effort.  I will have the answers the worksheet at the bottom of this page.
