Today we finished off part 2 of the Bean Lab.  This part of the lab had us working on how to conserve energy.  We leaned that the best solution to using nonrenewable resources is to use less of them and to rely more on renewable energy resources.  Remember the 2 types of beans, black eyed peas and kidney beans, represent renewable and nonrenewable resources.

Here is the 2nd bean lab.

We then did a quick lab on potential/kinetic energy where we would drop a marble from 2 different heights, 20 cm and 40 cm into a tub of sand.  We then would measure the depth of the indentation that the marble makes in the sand to see how the different heights translates into different amounts of potential energy which then changes over to kinetic energy.  We also discussed how kinetic energy is affected by either the amount of mass an object has or the speed at which the object is moving.

Here is the simple drop marble lab.
