Tuesday 4/5/22

 Today we started the notes for chapter 15 lesson 1.  We are on pp. 526-535.  We set up out focusing questions and then worked on the vocabulary for the lesson. 

Here are the notes:

 Keep in mind the vocabulary has been shorted and stated in student language

Lesson 1

-What is a wave?

-How do different types of wave make particles of matter move?

-Can waves travel though empty space? 

Vocab

  • Wave - moves E not mater
  • Mechanical wave - a wave that travels through a medium (Stuff) 
  • medium - fancy word for stuff (We will get into more detail on this.)
  • Transverse wave - a wave that moves side-to- side
  • crest -(not Colgate) the high point of a wave
  • trough - the low point of a wave
  • longitudinal wave - a wave that moves foreword and back
  • compression - the point of E in a L-wave
  • rarefaction - the point of no E in an l-wave
  • electromagnetic wave (EM wave) - a wave that can travel though both mater and empty space.
