Tuesday 2-1-22

Today we continued on with notes for chapter 10 lesson 2.  We are chemical properties of metal.   We read from pp. 357-359  We noticed that the physical properties of metals become less metallic as you move from right to left on the periodic table.  We also noted that density increased in elements as the number of protons increased.  Chemically speaking we noticed that patters occur in each column or groups.  These patters are called families because they share the same characteristics in each column.  This is much the same as a student might have the same looks as either mom or dad.

I one of my classes the discussion move in the direction of food. I stated that chemistry happens all of the time in cooking and that if you have ever baked cookies or have eaten good barbeque then you have taken part in an chemistry experiment.   I showed this class the following videos.

How cookies are chemistry in the kitchen.

Barbecue is the art of chemistry and food combined.
