Today we continued our discussion with wave interactions. We looked at the three types of interference. We discussed constructive, destructive interference and we discussed standing waves AKA resonance

Today we started the discussion for chapter 15 lesson 3. We discussed how waves interact. We started out with the Law of Reflection.

Today we started lesson 3 of chapter 15 of the textbook. We set up the notes for the new lesson and read pp. 547-552. We then fill in the chapter 15 lesson 3 outline. Don't forget that log 5 and 6 are due on Friday. We will grade both of them and start the notes for lesson 3.

Lesson 3
How do wave interact with matter?
What are reflection refraction, and diffraction?
What is interference?
Vocabulary
Today we finished lesson 2 of chapter 15. We read pp. 541-542.
We discussed that frequency is measured in hertz Hz
Here are the notes.
Today we continued with lesson 2 of chapter 15. We read pp. 539-540.
We discussed how frequency depends on how many wave pass a certain point per second.
Here are the notes.
Today we started on log 6 q4 and then started the notes for lesson 2 of chapter 15. We read pp. 538-539.
Keep in mind that many of the answers to the weekly logs questions are in the reading.
Here are the notes.
Today we finished off the Rope and Slinky wave lab.
Here is an example of what we are working with.

Today we finished off the notes for chapter 15 lesson 1. We are on pp. 526-535. We are leaning what the properties of wave are.
Here is a video to help explain waves.

Today we started the notes for chapter 15 lesson 1. We are on pp. 526-535. We set up out focusing questions and then worked on the vocabulary for the lesson.
Here are the notes:
Keep in mind the vocabulary has been shorted and stated in student language
Lesson 1
-What is a wave?
-How do different types of wave make particles of matter move?
-Can waves travel though empty space?
Vocab
Today we started off by grading log 4 q3 and then we started our new unit on waves.
We are in chapter 15 of the textbook p. 526. We set up page 1 of our notes a started with a series of videos to show how waves pass both information and energy. Students were asked to make a hypothesis on what a slinky would do when stretched out and then dropped.
Here are the videos.
Today we took the chapter 5 energy test.
If you were absent you need to set up a day to take this before school or after school.
Today we finished off part 2 of the Bean Lab. This part of the lab had us working on how to conserve energy. We leaned that the best solution to using nonrenewable resources is to use less of them and to rely more on renewable energy resources. Remember the 2 types of beans, black eyed peas and kidney beans, represent renewable and nonrenewable resources.
We then did a quick lab on potential/kinetic energy where we would drop a marble from 2 different heights, 20 cm and 40 cm into a tub of sand. We then would measure the depth of the indentation that the marble makes in the sand to see how the different heights translates into different amounts of potential energy which then changes over to kinetic energy. We also discussed how kinetic energy is affected by either the amount of mass an object has or the speed at which the object is moving.
